MGM Grand What to do after the Cyberattack

With the recent Malicious Cyberattack on MGM, I thought it might be helpful to point out a few ways that this could effect you, and some steps that you might want to take, immediately to protect yourself.

First, let me say that nothing has been made public that I am aware of, that suggest any of their (MGM’s) guest data has been effected, hacked or breached.

However, as a precautionary measure, it would be good practice to change any passwords associated with any of you MGM Rewards and online account information.

Additionally, keep an eye on your email accounts for new phishing scams that may target you as a result of this Cyberattack.

  1. Don’t click or open any emails from people or businesses that you are unfamiliar with. One click is all it takes to allow hackers into your email account and  gain access to other vital information that could be very costly for you.
  2. Be sure to look closely at emails that look friendly but could have the wrong spelling of very prominent companies that you do business with, such as Amazon, Fedex and UPS.
  3. Remember a phishing scam is strictly to gain information from you through a series of questions via email or phone calls, until they get all of the information that is needed to create accounts in your name and assume your identity.

If there was a Guest/Rewards member data breach, you could be targeted based on your Tier membership, Geo-graphic location and many other data points that are affiliated with your MGM account.

These are things that you can do and watch for ,without being notified by any law enforcement personnel or MGM themselves.

Also keep in mind, it could take weeks or even months to truly know all of the areas effected and how it impacts you.

Don’t wait to be told, protect yourself now.
